I am happy with the ProPur Big water filter system for use in our kitchen. The water tastes good; it removed the smell from the city water which I did not like at all. The unit was easy to assemble. Before I bought ProPur, I had tried a Berkey unit. However, the filtered water with Berkey was always cloudy even after several primings of the filters; so I had to return the Berkey unit to Amazon. However, the Propur unit is working very well for us. The difference between the two products is that Berkey uses carbon filters that need to be primed; and ProPur uses ceramic filters that don't need to be primed. I like the cermaic filters.
If you read the negative reviews on this company's water filters, you'd think they start leaking liquid mercury after a week of use. However, the truth is far better.
The complaints I read are:
- The filter is made cheaply and corrodes. Time will tell on this one, as I've only had it for 2 months. Thus far, it's performed just fine next to my antique stainless steel Faberware percolator and stainless steel & glass Thermos carafe. In fact they look very similar, and I doubt this will corrode as indicated.
All in all, it's a great little money saver for me. I spent over $1K on bottled spring, distilled, artesian and mainly mineral water at the grocery store per year for the past several years. Now with this device I only spend a little over $300 per year after the initial purchase, plus don't have to ration the water I have due to the expense of going out to procure it and the cost itself. It's a win-win, I get to drink more water which helps so much with my exercise regimen, heck I'm already seeing better results and I've been working out for a little over 10 years. And also, I spend much less per gallon of water, and am guaranteed it's free of fluoride / toxins every time. Buy it and never look back, I'd been holding off for many years waiting for atmospheric water generators to come down in price, and ended up researching it some more this year. Turns out there is BPA in a lot of those systems, and really the Propur water tastes better than most (glass) bottled water.
